Ash wins it all- Pokémon League Champion at last
Posted in Entertainment on 17th September 2019
Well I'll be damned. 22 years. That's all it took. Ash (Tomato) Ketchup has finally managed to squeeze out a Pokémon league victory (pun absolutely intended). Haha I kid. Shouldn't be that mean.
Speaking of kids, Ash has kept at it for 22 years while remaining 10 years old. If there's anything I want from cartoons and anime to transfer to the real world, it has to be this. The superpower of not aging.
He wanted to be the very best. Like no one ever was. And now he finally is. After countless heartbreaks in previous tournaments, Ash has finally become Pokémon champion, winning the Alola league.
A(lol)a league winner. The hint from the makers in the name. Ash is a serial joke. He is the Arsenal football club of the Pokemon world. Alright, I'm being way too harsh here. Arsenal are better.
In the latest episode of the Sun and Moon series of Pokémon, Ash finally managed to get past all his demons and finally pull of that elusive victory. It was so surprising that even Ash had some trouble believing he'd done it.

To all of us who grew up watching the series, this victory seems a bit out of place. We've all grown up accustomed to seeing Ash bow out so close to the goal. A case of great but not elite. It would seem Ash has finally reached that elite level.
So end all the memes about Ash never winning a league (granted he did win the Orange Island league and Battle frontier earlier, but those weren't canon).
And begin the new memes, starting with how wonky and weird Ash looks. Of course the memes will never end for Ash himself is a meme. The silly lad.
People have compared this win to legendary sports moments.
Like this being better than LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers comeback from 3-1 down against the Golden State Warriors to win the NBA title in 2016.
This victory was compared by one person to the Oscar Leonardo DiCaprio was given. Should've won it before but they're handing it out now as compensation with feelings of sympathy.
The overwhelming response though has been one of happiness and excitement for Ash finally achieving his dream. We've all been rooting for him since we were kids and it feels great to finally see him win what he's been after.

Not that he didn't annoy the crap out of us on his journey. For someone who proclaimed he wanted to catch them all, he was very willing to not bother catching some and to release the ones he did own. And yes, the gym battles were all awesome but we had to endure some pretty lame filler episodes at times to get there. Of course, that can be forgiven as we've seen far worse offenders (looking at you Naruto). But looking back at it as a whole, it made for great television.
What next? Well with Ash finally winning the league a lot of people think that this might be the end of the series for good. At least with Ash as the lead protagonist.
And so if that's how it ends then a thank you for being a special part of so many people's childhood. Gotta Ketchum all.
